Io Shirai & Koguma vs. Kairi Hojo & Mayu Iwatani (Stardom Grow Up Stars 2015)

This is part of the “Stardom’s Favorite Daughter—Icon or Illusion?” watch series, which you can find here.

One does wonder if Koguma could’ve weaved her way into the ‘daughters of Stardom’ parable had she forgone her first retirement. At least to me, I’ve found her quite enjoyable throughout her first run, and she’s been the focal point of some good stuff even when beside the other three. Now with them alone, this is as close as we ever get to seeing if she belonged in that conversation, and she hits every stride.

At least that’s what I wanted to say.

It isn’t so much as Koguma fails to step or anything, it’s just that this was never set up to be much of anything. This is just a couple weeks after the Yoshiko/Act Yasukawa, and maybe that has something do with it, because as a match this one desinged more to interact with the crowd than to hint towards any progress. There’s a couple big dives, a whole punch of posing, and pretty much everything in between that’ll get the crowd to chant along or make noise. It’s all harmless, but still stuff I usually click off of. I’m not in the crowd afterall.

Maybe in my headcanon, this type of match is the thing that Meiko Satomura’s going to force out of these women in a few months time, but alas, it’s probably nothing more than some house show footage that found its way onto the internet.
